Scope Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 Hi all, Im new to this forum, and indeed to the Galaxy itself. I am awaiting delivery of mine but while I wait can I ask a question.. Its a Zetec which will come with the standard Ford CD player and the dealer has agreed to fit a cd change of my choice (I have to buy it). Question is, does the Ford Cd player (5000?) control any CD changer, or will I need to look for a particular type? Also, can you get a CD changer with MP3 support even thought the CD player (controller) doesnt support it? I'd like to get a MP3 cd change is possible. Any recommendations? Thank you. Quote

Scope Posted January 9, 2007 Author Report Posted January 9, 2007 Right, I am picking up my Galaxy this afternoon and very excited to finally own one. Before I purchase a CD changer I would like to know if anybody else has used an external CD changer with MP3 on the CD player that comes as standard in the galaxy (6000?).. Are you able to navigate the folders on the CD (mp3)?, how does the CD player display the content of the CD? Are you able to get a list of songs and pick the one you want to listen to? Or is a better option to rip out the 6000 and replace with a "normal" CD change unit? How do you guy fill in the gap left behind (as the 6000 is very high compared to a normal car stereo)? Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 i took my ford hu out of mine put in a pioneer flip screen unit with sat nav as for what you put in the space cos the 6000 is a din and half unitfew pics below i used the 2nd pic bought from ebay Quote

I've got an answer for this one now and will write it here in case somebody else is looking in the future. The Ford stereo (6000) will NOT display ID3 tags (song name, artist, etc), but simply CDX-TXX, just like a CD.. Its a shame, but there you go. Quote
Guest mcyoungy Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Where does the CD changer live in the galaxy? Is it under a seat or in the big pocket in the back? Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 it lives in the pocket at the rear drivers side, above from where the car jack lives Quote
Guest mcyoungy Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Cheers gooner. Is it obvious where to bolt it in? Do all models have the wiring for the changer fitted from new? My new toy has a 4050 radio cassette with cd changer controls. I bought a 6000 RDS CD player but, of course, it's not Galaxy shaped so that will be going back on Ebay. If I but one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...p;rd=1&rd=1 do I need anything else? Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 iirc from my yreg mk2 that had the changer, there was a hole in the pocket bin,so the changer sildes in place so it might need a new skin ,or if your feeling happy you might try cuttin the old one(your choice) the lead should or might be taped up.take the jack out and have a look, you should see it there even my 52 with vcr, still has the lead they taped up hope this helps Quote
Guest mcyoungy Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Certainly does thank you. I'll have a look tomorrow in daylight and then probably ask some more daft questions. Cheers Quote
Guest wolfie Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 there is a knock out cable entry in the bottom of the storage bin, score round it with a sharp knife a few times to remove it, dont just hit it and expect it to fall out easily! the unit mounts into the storage bin and is held in place primarily by the two brackets shown on the picture, but! there is a shaped foam packing piece that holds the unit in place and stops it rattling around! if the cable is there? it will most likely be taped back to the main loom, it's been known to be found right back on top of the wheel arch behind the trim! so be prepared to dig around and have a good look for it!
